Well my flight got delayed 4 hours… it was awful I spent 21 hours in an airport or on a plane on Wednesday. Transaero fed us some pretty good food and were very diligent crew members. I totally recommend flying with them. It also wasn’t a very full flight, so, I got 3 whole seats to myself which was nice - I could stretch out nicely. But, that doesn’t mean I slept very well. The jet lag has been awful. I keep waking up at odd hours and falling asleep at odd hours. My goal for today is to make it through the entire day without falling asleep. Lets see if that works considering I woke up at 1 am.
So, I got to know the family a little bit. I and Al are the parents. I is a homemaker and has one unmarried brother that lives in Moscow. She speaks quite a bit of English, which is very helpful to me. I just correct her English every now and then or provide words she doesn’t know. Al works in Moscow, he has a brother that lives there as well in an apartment Al owns. Al speaks English pretty well and the only difficult part is understanding through his accent. Then there is A who is 3. She is very loud and outgoing. She loves to play ball and watch this Russian cartoon about a little alien that comes and lives with a family of bees and plays with the insects. She gets frustrated with me sometimes because I can’t understand her fully. She is used to being understood. I can understand the words a lot of the time. I just don’t know what they mean! She has a penchant for hitting her baby sister but, sometimes she does the cutest things to look out for N. N is 1.5 years old and loves everything it seems. She is a very good copycat. She’s already picked up the words tickle and fly and wow, even though I don’t think she knows what they mean yet She is so adorable and loving. Both A and N love to be read too but, not at the same time. They fight over the book. They are a little set in their ways so it is hard integrate myself into their play but I think with time it will be good.
It is cold here in Moscow but, not as cold as they seem to think it is. I and Al are very insistent that I get a new warmer coat. I was fine yesterday in my wool jacket but, it will be nice to have a knee length jacket. That will look good with my church clothes plus it will keep my thighs warmer. I wants to take me shopping today.
Yesterday we went to the supermarket and oh. my. goodness. There were so many people! They all just weaved their way through the crowd. I was so overwhelmed. I think I was too polite. There were so many foods and I did not know the names for them. I’m excited to have kinder chocolate again though. That stuff is delicious.
The roads in Russia aren’t very good they are full of potholes and there aren’t usually lines. I says it is not a big deal and the drivers know where the lines are but, I think that the driver that picked me up from the airport just made up his own lanes sometimes…. It was scary.
