Hello my lovely friends and family,
So, we went on a "cruise" along the Volga River. Nizhny Novgorod sits on the banks of the river. But, the river is super polluted so we can't swim in it. But, it certainly looks pretty. You can see our boat in the picture below.
(M, Blonde S, R, TA J, and A are getting on the boat!)
(Little K and A chillin)
Alexander Nevsky's Cathedral from afar!
The Kremlin from afar.
Teachers and Masseuse S chillin and chattin'
We also went to a car museum. I might get pictures later but we were only allowed one camera per group and TA J hasn't posted the pictures on facebook yet.
Now on to Gorodets. This is a monument to Alexander Nevsky. It is the monument made by the people. It is in a circle to symbolize the circle of life and it has the cities of all the places he lived inscribed on the circle.
This is the governments statue of Alexander Nevsky.
Alexander Nevsky was a prince who after his death became a saint for the Russian Orthodox Church. He was a leader during some very trying times in the history of Rus (the predecessor of Russia). For more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Nevsky
Gorodets is a tourist/vacation town. The people that live here are paid by the government to keep their houses beautiful.
We didn't get to see the inside of this museum but I really liked the title: Gallery of Good.
This is a famous bread type thing. It has cinnamon and raisins in it I think. I tried it. It is good but not my favorite.
A painting of old Gorodets.
This is the traditional style of painting done in Gorodets which it is famous for.
This clock is freaking awesome. You can't really tell in the picture but not only does it have hands for the time but it also tells the day of the week, the month, and day.
The face of a Russian manikin in the museum.
The owner of the museum helped carry the eternal flame to the Sochi 2014 Olympics this is the suit he wore.
Since I don't take pictures in churches here is a display of some of the artwork found in churches.
This lady is a famous painter and teacher in the Gorodets traditional form of painting. She demonstrated for us.
This was my favorite: Pizza AND Sushi!
I only have 13 days left in Nizhny Novgorod. We have one day in Kazahn and one day in Suzdal. Then 5 days in Moscow.
So long and thanks for all the fish,
K
